Rev. H. Mark Else | Visitation and Outreach Pastor
Pastor Mark has served in ministry of the Church of the Nazarene for more than thirty-nine years. A fourth-generation Nazarene, he grew up in Iowa and was active in his local Nazarene church and the Iowa District NYI. At the age of 14, he preached his first sermon.
During college, Mark married Paula (Dayhoff), a “missionary kid” from South Africa. Upon graduation they moved to Bridgeton NJ where he began his ministry as a staff pastor of Youth and Music/worship. A year later they moved to Hastings, Nebraska where, again, he served as a staff pastor for 2 years before moving to Kansas City to attend Nazarene Theological Seminary. During seminary, he pastored a country church in Missouri and was ordained in 1985. He later pastored in Iowa, Northwest Illinois, Chicago suburbs, and Omaha, serving more than 37 years all together as a pastor.
Passionate for world missions, he has ministered in Mexico, Trinidad, France, and Poland. He also served on several District Boards and Councils, including as the District Nazarene Youth International Treasurer in Iowa, Chicago Central District Nazarene Missions International President, and Nebraska District Sunday School & Discipleship Ministries International Chairperson.
Mark was involved in the local communities where he pastored. Of particular interest, he was asked to serve on 2 organizational committees to start a 24-hour Christian radio station in Iowa. In Illinois, he volunteered as a hospital chaplain. While pastoring in Omaha he was asked to conduct weekend worship services at a newly-developed retirement community. Today, in addition to serving Faith Journey Church as Pastor of Visitation and Outreach, he is a part-time chaplain at 4 assisted living centers and 1 memory care facility.
Mark and Paula recently celebrated 41 years of marriage. They have two married children and six grandchildren.
